A Compelling Tale
Ok, I went to see "The Golden Compass" anticipating disappointment. I was pleasantly surprised. The movie didn't stringently follow the book's plot but most descriptions survived their visual translation intact. (why did the "dark haired Mrs. Coulter" translate to brilliant blonde?) The imagery drove me into the trilogy again and I find reading it again as much fun as the first pass through Mr. Pullman's grand descriptions and elegant prose. He is a superb storyteller and I urge anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of losing themselves in this series to plunge in, delightedly!
